The Daughter Abroad

Anna and Tassa join forces again for a two night performance at Theatre 503 in July 5/6 2019. This time they turn their attention to women and the responsibility and expectation that comes with that. It interrogates the tensions between duty and freedom through the story of a mother, once a daughter escaping to England, and her daughter who, living abroad arrives home. What transpires is a search for something; for meaning, safety, belonging, and an exploration of what home signifies. A performance investigating motherhood and the forms it takes in a small exiled family unit.

An all female cast present a two hander play about a mother and daughter, both living in foreign lands, belonging and not belonging in their home and to one another.

The mother has arrived in England, heavily pregnant. She was on the run, but now she is safe. The daughter, once grown up leaves England for work, for freedom, for adventure. When she comes home to her mum, the push and pull between mother and daughter ensues. There is much unresolved and unspoken pain and trauma endured between these displaced women. The daughter has a decision to face and does not want to do so alone.
